Hook Head

Ireland, Spring 2007, Hook Head, Co Wexford. The oldest lighthouse in Europe. The tower of the lighthouse was built in 13th century over the estuary of the 3 rivers (Suir, Barrow and Nore, according to Wikipedia) and on the rocky shore of Celtic Sea. I would like to come back for a whole day. It is very scenic place and I would take a lot of brilliant pictures of it, I am sure of that. Camera: Konica Minolta A1 DiMage

according with the information I have the oldest lighthouse in Europe is The “Torre de Hercules” in the city of La Corunya in Galicia (Spain) was built by the Romans. And the second is “La laterna” in Genova (Italy), The third is in Palma de Mallorca in Porto Pí. Anyway the Hook Head is a lighthouse that unfortunatly I had the possibility to visited in Ireland and I didn´t in my visit to Wexford. I enjoy your picture anyway. Regards from the Mediterranean

Please update your blog. Unfortunately, you have your facts wrong. The oldest lighthouse in Europe is the Torre de Hercules, in Spain. This is a case of misinformation. My 5th grade students found your information, and were very confused as to why anyone would ‘write’ the wrong information. It lead to a long discussion about conducting research. They concluded that the internet is filled with misinformation.

    Thank you
