East Street Festival: the man and his accordion

Lodz, Poland, East Street Festival (Święto Ulicy Wschodniej). One of the photos of a photo reportage I did during the East Street Festival in Lodz. East Street (ul. Wschodnia, Oststrasse) used to be one of the richest and representative streets in the strict city centre of Lodz (it is the nearest neighbour of Piotrkowska Street - the main street). Inhabited mostly by the Jewish community (there was a prayer house in almost every yard) the East Street is the example of the collapse of the wealth of Lodz and its multicultural social pattern. After the 2nd World War (most of the Jews were sent to Auschwitz and Kulmhof death camps) and 1958 (rest of the Jewish population was forced to leave Poland by communist regime), almost empty street become one of the most dirty, dangerous and ugly parts of the city. Today, there is a group of young people who try to activate their neighbourhood (especially kids from the grey and dirty yards). More photos to come.
